PVL Powers The Auckland Blues To Victory

The Auckland Blues stormed to victory in the Grand Final of the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman Tournament this past Saturday - ending an 18 year title drought! Super Rugby is a round-robin professional rugby union club competition across Australia and New Zealand, featuring 10 squads and being globally broadcast.

The Blues represented New Zealand’s capital city of Auckland very well - with a 13-6 lead at the end of the first half, thanks to a try from Mark Telea in the 17th minute, followed by a try conversion and 40th minute penalty kick from Otere Black. The opposing side, the Otago Highlanders, rallied a strong comeback in the second half, and were awarded 3 penalties within 7 minutes to gain a lead of 15-13 by the 66th minute of the game.

The Blues were able to snag a 70th minute penalty for replacement fly-half Harry Plummer, edging them just slightly ahead once more. This regained lead was cemented in the 77th minute, as a break in the play gained by Hoskins Sotutu resulted in a try from Blake Gibson. This try was then converted by Plummer to cement the victory for the blues with an 8 point margin - an end result of 23-15!

Here at PVL, we’re beyond proud of the fortitude and strength shown by all members of the Auckland Blues playing squad, and are grateful to the training and support staff for entrusting the crucial responsibility of supplementation to our team at Pure Vita Labs. The Blues’ Sports Dietitian, Dane Baker acknowledges the range of Whey and Plant protein powders from PVL as a core driver of muscle repair and regeneration from the team’s training and gym sessions in the lead-up to their big moment. “Protein is important for our Blues players here, because they’re doing an extremely high training load, so we can use protein across the day, and protein supplements can provide a convenient and really easily digested source of protein immediately after training”.

Naturally, the Blues have countless options for sourcing their protein supplementation - but when it came time to make this vital decision for the team on their path to victory, the choice was clear. The team chose to rely on PVL as the source of the best protein powder in New Zealand, as an important partner on their path to victory. Dane says “A key thing for us at the Blues, is to make sure every supplement is of the highest safety...we want all our supplements independently tested by world-recognised facilities…. That’s a really key part of our supplement program - ensuring what we give to athletes is completely safe from banned ingredients or contaminated products.”.

Replacement fly-half Harry Plummer - whose 70th minute penalty kick forged the Blues’ second and final lead in the game - is a big fan of PVL’s 100% Whey ISOGOLD for maintaining muscle strength and mass. He’s a fan of the fact it “...keeps the calories down a bit more, is still really high in protein, with a few extra carbs in there”. In explaining why using ISOGOLD was his choice for a low-calory source of protein and carbohydrates, Plummer elaborated “for me, it’s more just about (having) lots of trainings, getting my first days of recovery in, and making sure I’ve got enough energy to hit the next training session”.

Our team at PVL couldn’t be more thrilled with the determination and resilience displayed by the Blues, who’s home crowd victory in front of 36,000 fans at Auckland’s Eden Park signified the end of an 18-year drought. Blues Captain Patrick Tuipulotu remarked that “It's a pretty surreal feeling to have a full Eden Park like this. It brought us home. This is something we've been looking forward to for a long time and we've got to enjoy it.”.
